Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Championships

Julie Evans —

Due to Covid this event was postponed from Term 1 to last Thursday 15 October. Having qualified at the beginning of March at Rakahuri Zone event, it was a long wait but plenty of time to train.

Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Championships were held at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre in Rolleston. Unfortunately with renovations supporters could not enter the complex. Amelia Smith qualified for her first major Canterbury sporting event and competed in the Year 5 Girls 50 m freestyle. Though nervous she did enjoy the experience swimming against 30+ swimmers but was unplaced.

Jero Galway and Emeric Savry have represented Oxford and Rakahuri Zone at this event over the last two years so they chilled out in a tree social distancing prior to their events. Both competed very well with Jero finishing 5th in the Year 7 Girls 50 m Freestyle Final and Emeric won the Year 7 Boys 50 m Breaststroke, and he competed in the 50 m Open Butterfly.

Congratulations to Amelia, Jero and Emeric on your great achievements with your swimming.
