Years 7 and 8 Canterbury Summer Tournament - 17 November

Julie Evans —

Excited students gathering in the gym carpark at 7:30am was a true indication of how much sixty Year 7/8 students and their teachers were looking forward to a day of sport.

On Wednesday 17 November Primary Canterbury Sport were able to organise this event at Alert Level 2 as they split the venues for each code and had very clear guidelines in their RAMS for each school to follow. Oxford entered teams in the Kiwi Tag at North Hagley Park, Rogaine/Orienteering at South Hagley Park, Bowls at Bowls Canterbury in Fendalton and Golf at Rawhiti Golf Course.

The students enjoyed trying a new sport or having another go at a sport they have tried in Year 5-7 events. All students participated positively and respectfully displaying great skills, enthusiasm to improve, supported their team, and above all, had fun. It was great to have sixty students competing in the sunshine and different surroundings.

The Oxford teams had a very successful day with:

Oxford Red finishing second at Kiwi Tag- Mollie King, Myles McLauchlan, Scarlett Hart, Sonja Slemint, Lydia Denley, Bridget Eder, Cooper Sampson, Daniel Brown, Lucah Stagg, Alexis Stubbs and Paige Wakelin- Noble. Myles McLauchlan and Connor Slemint received Players Of the Day awards too.

In Golf the Oxford Red finished second- Oscar O'Connor, Harlem Bowers, Chaos Buttling, Abby Baard and Georgia Flanagan.

William Shore and Will Glassford improved with each game in Lawn Bowls to come away with a 3rd placing.

Rogaining and Orienteering had six Oxford teams competing with Oxford Orange winning both the rogaining and orienteering in the Mixed Team Grade- Nicholas McKinney, Charlotte Shelley and Jade Anderson. In the Girls Rogaining the Oxford Green team second - Zoey Anderson, Jero Galway, Skylar Murphy and Lilla Beer.

Thanks to the parents who assisted the teams at this event- Bryan Te Awa, Lin Ashby and Julie Shore.

A great day had by all.
