Kāhui Whetū - Growing together: our thriving connected community
Kia ora e te whānau,
It certainly has been a chilly week. Remember if our school was to be closed, for any reason, we would update our school website, and Facebook page, and send a text alert out. If you did not receive a text alert on Monday informing you school was open then it is very likely we have incorrect contact details for you. The best way to check this is on the Edge App:
If it is incorrect please contact the office on 03 312 4197 or email info@oxford.school.nz.
This week our local community acknowledged the passing of former Oxford Area School Head of Art - Brent Firkin. Brent's daughter Rachel Campbell currently works as our Year 1-3 Assistant Team Leader, and one of his sons Chris Firkin, is an itinerant music tutor, along with grandchildren at school. Brent set the bar high in our Art Department forging a culture of excellence where this legacy still remains to this very day. It was a special occasion where friends and family shared their memories of such a remarkable man. Our thoughts are with the Firkin family. Brent's legacy will always be remembered at Oxford Area School.
This celebration of life brought together many past and present staff and students. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect - we hope to all reconnect later in the year with the celebration of Oxford School's 150th Jubilee over Labour Weekend.
Don't forget to sign up and register for the Jubilee. Check out the Jubilee website where you will find the overview of the events on offer, including the evening dinner on the Saturday evening - a great opportunity to share a meal with past and present friends while reminiscing over those school years.
