Live your values

Mike Hart —

Term 2, Week 10

Kia ora koutou,

With two weeks remaining to the end of the term, we will be rounding off one of our longest terms of 12 weeks long (albeit some of those weeks were during lockdown). We have started to notice some of our students showing the signs tiredness. When we start to get tired it is important to be able to lean into our values.

At Oxford Area School we have embraced a set of values that we can see and hear in what we do around our school:

  • Be Respectful / Kia Whakaute
  • Be Responsible / Kia Haepapa
  • Be Caring / Kia Manaaki
  • Be Positive / Kia Manahau

To live your values is to live authentically.

As we walk through life what are the things we most want to be known for - not the things we have done but how we have lived our lives, the behaviour we have demonstrated. These are our values.

In the morning as your sons/daughters/grandchildren/loved ones are preparing for the day ask them to focus on one of those values - I am going to live this value today, I am going to look for opportunities to live that value. By living our values we are able to top up how we feel about ourselves and recharge those batteries.

Ngā mihi
