Primary Schools Canterbury Cross Country was held on Wednesday 22 June with three OAS students competing.

Julie Evans —

Nga Puna Wai was the new venue to host the Primary Schools' Canterbury event for 2022. All runners said it was a great course with a few challenges so really enjoyed running there.

In ideal running weather, and the excitement of a new venue, made the runners keen to have a go at this higher level of competition. Freedom Kennett was a first timer at this event as a Year 5 runner. She really enjoyed the opportunity to experience a large event as there are about 1,000 runners across Canterbury and the West Coast who compete over the eight races during the day.

For Paige Wakelin-Noble and Nathaniel Sillars, it was the last time they will compete at this event as they are both in Year 8. Paige has competed over the last four years, and she said the change of venue was great, where she enjoyed the new course to run. Nathaniel has been a couple of times and is always keen to give it his best shot, which he did. Thanks Paige and Nathaniel for being positive leaders for OAS in Cross Country encouraging others to compete eagerly as you both have over recent years. All the best for future Cross Country events in your high school next year and beyond.
