Innovation Seminar at Massey University for Year 11 Commerce Students
On 21 October, Massey University hosted an Innovation Day with a STEM focus for 11 Commerce Students.
The day extended student’s learning on the innovation process, how to design new products and influences such as climate change on the global supply of products. This was held in a lecture space at Massey (in the Wool Building) and involved a visit next door to Feast (the Food Experience and Sensory Testing Laboratory), where students had the opportunity to taste food and give feedback on the experience.
Students were given the opportunity to participate in a range of challenges that helped them to understand the process involved in product design.
Our thanks to the team at Massey for organising this event and in particular the industry experts who engaged with the students and helped them on this learning journey. The presenters for the day were: Professor Joanne Hort, Associate Professor Nicola Brown, Dr Charles Diako, Dr Sarah Golding, Dr Victoria Hatton (Food HQ, CEO) and Ebony Leake (Food HQ, Communications). Thank you too to Stacey Lane and Tania Jahnke the Future Student Team who made us all feel so welcome.
The next step for students was to design their own innovative product. These were auctioned on 12 November.
