Here are some reflections from students:
Silver: Elsie Battley
For my skill I learnt violin, for my service I volunteered at the Arohanui Hospice Op Shop, and for my physical recreation I did inline skating. The highlight for me was probably my skill - it required me to practise way more than the necessary one hour per week, and although this was sometimes hard, it was really fun to be able to learn so many new pieces through lessons and musical groups.
Bronze: Shuhan Cao
For my skill I did Chinese, for my service I was assisting coaching table tennis to younger kids every Monday afterschool, and for my 6 month activity, I chose physical recreation - which I played table tennis. The highlight of the award would probably be just trying things that I otherwise would’ve never done, such as those tramping trips. But also, I really enjoyed assisting coaching table tennis to younger kids as it was a different experience than just playing.
Bronze: Georgina Irwin
For my skill I did piano, which has made me a good habit of practising. For my service I decided to coach football to kids and for my physical recreation I played football. I would say that the highlight of this award would be the coaching. I improved my coaching skills, and it was really fun coaching kids who looked up to you.
Bronze: Sophia Sun
For my skill I learned to read and write in German. My service was volunteering at New Kiwi Club and my physical recreation was playing hockey. The highlight of this award for me was the last tramp I did with my friends to Tutuwai Hut in the Tararuas. I really enjoyed spending more time with my friends in a challenging environment where we all got to push ourselves while trying something new.
