Mrs Biggs was our principal from 2015 to 2019 when she retired due to illness.

Kua hinga te tōtara o Te Waonui a Tāne.E te tōtara haemata.

Moe mai rā ki tua o pae maumahara,

ki te kāpunipuni o ngā wairua.

It is with sadness that we inform our wider school community of the passing of Mrs Karene Biggs on Friday morning. An experienced, outstanding educator with a heart for students, Mrs Biggs has left a lasting legacy at Palmerston North Girls' High School.

Karene's contribution to education was significant; She was a teacher of maths and music. She was formerly Principal at Rangitikei College, held senior leadership positions at Aorere College in Auckland and Wairarapa College in addition to time with ERO, work with SPANZ as well as co-authoring a book on leadership.

Karene rarely missed an event where our students were representing our school. She could be found at MISSA athletics, netball, on the side of rugby fields and attending drama events. Karene had a particular passion for music and was well known for her singing. At PNGHS she enthusiastically led the assembly that taught our new Year 9s the school song, alongside involvement with Barbershop and a trip accompanying Cantatrices to the National Big Sing event was a highlight for her.

We will miss Karene as a mentor, a role model, a leader and a friend. Our thoughts are with her family at this time.
