PPTA Teachers' Strike on Thursday 16 March 2023
The PPTA has advised that its member teachers at our school will be taking strike action on 16 March 2023. The strike action is a response to the failure of the Ministry of Education to come to an agreement with the PPTA over secondary teacher conditions and remuneration after the collective agreement expired on June 30, 2022.
The school has considered the availability of non-union teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that as most of our teachers are union members, we cannot provide normal instruction during the strike so the school will be officially closed for instruction on Thursday 16 March. Accordingly, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your young person if they are under 14 years of age during the period of the strike as no supervision can be provided.
We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike. Please be assured that student safety is our main concern.
If the MInistry of Education comes to an agreement with the PPTA in sufficient time for the strike action to be withdrawn, we will advise, but otherwise, Palmerston North Girls’ High School is closed for instruction and supervision on Thursday 16 March 2023.
