Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an opportunity that is available to all students. Doing the award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements. The Award is comprised of three levels and four sections – Skills, Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey. At Gold level, participants also complete a Residential Project.

Participation in the Award Programme helps young adults to develop personal qualities of commitment, self-awareness, initiative, self-confidence, determination and motivation and to develop the essential skills of leadership, teamwork, decision making, risk management, organisation and communication.

Congratulations to the following students who have achieved their Gold Awards:

Christina Leong 13TU

To complete the award Christina participated in swimming for physical recreation, cookery for skill, volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul op shop for service and did the expedition at Abel Tasman National Park. For her Residential Project she attended Innovative Young Minds.

Anna Kelly 13DJ

Anna participated in a fitness programme for physical recreation, cookery for skill, assisted at Wholegrain Organics and helped a neighbour for service and did the expedition at Abel Tasman National Park. For her Residential Project she attended Youth to Everest and went on a trip to Nepal.

Joyee Gui 13DJ

Joyee participated in badminton for physical recreation, piano for skill, was a teaching assistant for service and did the expedition at Abel Tasman National Park. For her Residential Project she attended the programme at Hillary Outdoor Education Centre.

Maddison McQueen-Davies (Head Girl 2019)

Maddison participated in tennis lessons for physical recreation, piano for skill, served on the Palmerston North Youth Council for service and did an expedition in the Horowhenua area. For her Residential Project she attended the International Science School 2019.

Well done on completing the Award and on this amazing achievement.
