PNGHS — Mar 16, 2021

On 11 March PNGHS year 10 travelled to Linton Army camp as part of our year 10 camp.

There were 3 group activities that tested our communication, co-operation and team skills, we had activities in the Gym, Pool and Obstacle course. The camp was very challenging and the Army leaders persistently pushed us to do well. The pool task (building a tent underwater) was the most fun and needed heaps of communication and problem solving skills.

As a team we worked well and there was a lot of help and encouragement between all year 10's. Everyone gave the tasks a go and had heaps of fun.

Of all the days on our year 10 camp the most challenging was Linton Army Camp. We both enjoyed the obstacle course the most, the obstacles like the tunnel and the monkey bars were really cool. Even though we were split up from the rest of our tutor group we all worked together helping out NHE tutor group and pushing together as a team. The monkey bars were tougher than they looked but people helped each other to reach them and also we helped each other out with the fence obstacle. By the end of the camp and three really challenging activities we were all tired but had a great time.

On Wednesday 10 March as part of our Year 10 camp, a group of students went to the Linton Army Camp. When we arrived there was no wasting time. The Drill Master sprinted away and told us to follow him. We sped off to where our first challenge would take place. The three tasks that we completed were a challenge course, a rotational endurance exercise, and an underwater building task. It pushed us to our limits, mentally and physically. These tasks helped us understand the importance of teamwork and what we can achieve when we set our mind to it. We learnt more about ourselves and whether we are a leader, a listener, or a follower. The staff wanted everyone to have the confidence and a chance to lead, especially people that don’t normally lead or take control. Overall this day was a great learning experience for everyone.

I would like to share our time from camp. It was an amazing experience, it was so cool to watch my form class grow and come together to help and support each other. I said to my form teacher after Linton Army Camp that “i think this was the most our form class has talked and helped each other” which to me, was a stand out point. I asked my peers what were their two favourite things and they said Linton Army Camp because they got to see people complete challenges that had them out of their comfort zone and they succeeded. The second favourite thing was off the loop as it was lots of laughs and was a bit of a challenge, but a fun challenge. Altogether we had lots of fun on camp, and a massive shout out to all the teachers that organised this especially our year 10 deans.
