Pasifika Fusion
On 21 and 22 June, 68 PNGHS students took part in the annual Pasifika Fusion competition at the Regent Theatre.
The event involves a 20 minute cultural performance, as well as debate, cinematography, speeches in English and Pasifika languages, quiz, essay, poetry, science, visual art, wearable art and drama.
The event is a chance for Pasifika students to share their culture and heritage, and to celebrate and share their stories with other schools and the wider public. Our students have a long and proud history in the competition, being involved in since the event started in 2005.
After 2 days of intense competition – which followed months of preparation – our students won the following categories:
Drama
Cinematography
Quiz
Senior Samoan Speech
Senior Tongan Speech
Wearable Arts
Junior Poetry
Junior Essay
Speech – Pidgin English
Talent – Gospel Choir
Talent – Dance (Duet)
We also won overall, and won the cultural performance section of the event. Although we have been regular winners of the overall event, this is the first time since 2008 that we have also won the cultural performance trophy!
Congratulations to all the prize winners, and to all the participants, and a special mention to our Year 13 students, and especially Pasifika prefect Letaua Kuki, who put in many hours to ensure that the Pasifika cultures at our school were proudly represented at this event.
