NCEA Information
CAA Common Assessment Activity for Numeracy and Literacy
The CAA is coming up in Week 4 this term starting on Monday 20 May. At our school the CAA is sat by Year 11 students. For Week 4, these students are on study leave and required to come into school for their exam sessions.
Here are some commonly asked questions.
What must students do before the CAA?
Students must set up their MYNZQA learner login before the CAA exams. Students will use their username and password to access the CAA task on the day of your exam. Students can access past exams papers to support their preparations with their MyNZQA login. Note that the practice exams online will not be available the week of the CAA exams.
If students are bringing their own laptop or chromebook check the device specifications for the CAA.
There are a number of useful links that can support students preparations on the PNGHS Student Google Site. For example, how to set up MyNZQA learner login, Polly to text information sheet, student preparations. Students have access to this site using their school login details.
We encourage students to go onto the practice assessments and are familiar with the tool. If students choose to use Polly - text to speech they need to test this with plug in headphones. If students are using the school chrome books you will need to bring plug in headphones.
Where can students find information about the CAA?
All the links are on the PNGHS Student Google site.
What do students need to bring to the exam?
For all exams students can use a laptop or chrome book. If students bring their own device this must be fully charged and be able to last for 2 hours. If students have a suitable device please bring to each exam, we do not have enough devices for all students. Students can check the PNGHS Student google site for the link to the NZQA page with information on the specifications of devices that can be used in the CAA. If students do not have a suitable device we will lend a school chrome book.
For the Numeracy exam students are able to bring a calculator to the exam. If students are using the Polly to text function in the exam they will need to bring plug in headphones. Also bring a pen to the exam. Students will be provided with extra paper for working or planning in the exams if needed.
When are my exam sessions?
This information has been emailed to students, parents/whānau
All exams are in the R block. All examination rooming will be posted outside R block on the day of the exam.
What do I do if I am unwell on the day of my exam?
If students are unwell on the day or unable to attend the exam parents/caregivers are asked to phone the student centre. Please note to qualify for the catch up exam the reason for absence must be a reason to miss an NCEA examination, it must be a justified reason. There is one day for catch up exams, that is Monday 27 May. The next opportunity for students to sit the CAA will be in September during school examinations.
An email with final reminders will be sent out to students, parent/caregivers/whānau closer to the assessment week.
