Here are some reflections from students:
Bronze Award: Emma Macpherson
The Bronze award for Duke of Edinburgh has taken me on a journey which has prepared me for Silver and Gold, and for important aspects of my life as of now and in the future. It has helped me improve on my social skills and interactions with others, by volunteering in a childcare service organisation and writing poetry, as well as connecting with the environment and the physical world via going on organised tramps and my selected sport Rifle Shooting.
Not only has this prepared me for life after graduation, but I now have a new found hobby from the sport I was participating in - something that I could dedicate my time and efforts into.
Bronze Award: Emerald Ruhnayat
For my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, I participated in four different sections, Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service, and Adventurous Journeys. For my Physical Recreation section, I did archery, which was a sport I was only starting out when I began my award. By the time I had completed my physical recreation, I had gained a passion for archery, and it became a sport that I look forward to continuing on with. For my skills section, I played violin, with the goal of furthering my skills in reading music, and playing in group settings such as ensembles. My voluntary service at the Manawatū Toy Library, and tramps that I completed in my adventurous journey section, were definitely the highlights of my Bronze Award. Tramping was a highlight for me, as I was able to see some beautiful views, and meet new people, which was awesome. Further, volunteering at the Manawatū Toy Library was a highlight of my award, as it taught me useful skills, such as customer service, which is a useful skill to have for the future.
