Robyn Kahukiwa Gallery Visit
Over the last week, Year 10 and 12 Visual Art students have been visiting Te Manawa Art Gallery to see the Robyn Kahukiwa exhibition.
This is a great lead in to our portrait painting unit for Year 10 and Year 12 are looking at figures in space with a focus on Whanaungatanga and connection to people, places and events/personal experiences.
Robyn Kahukiwa:Tohunga Mahi Toi has strong links to both the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories and Visual Arts Curriculum. ‘Robyn's artworks have made a difference to Māori. ‘They have provided not only beauty and strength but inroads into mātauranga, and the multi-layered, inter-generational and ever-evolving stories that are part of our cultural landscape. Her work has become an alternate visual rendering of Aotearoa’s history, through the lens of a Māori woman.’
Year 13 students are also looking forward to attending a workshop here soon.
