Pūhoro STEMM Academy Aupiki Ake Award

PNGHS —

At the recent Pūhoro STEMM graduation event for Y13 tauira, Emma Durston our Pūhoro Ūpoko (student leader) received the Aupiki Ake award which recognises excellence, commitment to the programme and achievement in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Mātauranga Māori).

As the 2021 recipient, Emma is the first PNGHS tauira to be honoured with this national award. She also received the Pūhoro Ki te hoe Award, for showing distinction in demonstrating Pūhoro’s mantra – He Waka Eke Noa – in striving for excellence in the STEM world and Te Ao Māori. Tino pai rawa atu Emma!

The Pūhoro STEMM programme aims to engage, encourage, support and mentor Māori tauira as they study STEMM subjects through secondary school, into tertiary study and into their careers. We are accepting applications from Y10 to Y12 tauira for the 2022 programme. Students should contact Dr Meikle, if they are keen to join and fill in an online form
