New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Symphony Orchestra 2024

Hard work paid off for five of our students who had the honour of being selected for the NZSSSO - workshopping, rehearsing and performing in Christchurch during the April school holidays. They are cellist Isabella Li and violinists Amy Macpherson, Annie Scrichantra, Angela Fang and Haewon Kim.

Here is Haewon’s experience in her own words:

" The NZSSSO course was a rewarding experience for us all. Each day consisted of about 6 hours of rehearsals that would leave us quite exhausted by the end of the day. But that didn’t stop us from enjoying other activities such as ice-skating, night-time trips to get froyo and Angela’s big birthday dinner!
This year was especially memorable for me - leading the orchestra was a demanding job but I enjoyed every minute of it! "

NZSO National Youth Orchestra 2024

Congratulations to Haewon Kim and Angela Fang who have both recently secured a position in the violin section of the prestigious 2024 NZSO National Youth Orchestra (NYO). This marks the third consecutive year that Haewon has been selected. Securing a place in the NYO is no small feat. Competition is tough with young musicians aged 25 and under vying for limited spaces, many are studying at tertiary level and beyond. The NYO plays a vital role in providing unique opportunities for the country's most gifted young orchestral performers, paving the way for successful careers as musicians.
