Media Film Awards

Marion Bryant —

This year the Media Studies Prefect, Luisa Nacola, worked with her committee to bring back the Palmy Girls’ Media Awards evening.

Students from all year levels could submit the films they had produced in class for panel judging and awards went to the top film in each category, with some runners-up prizes for the more hotly contested categories.

The Year 9 award for best film trailer went to “Toxic”, an expressive and imaginative film created by Aramaia Burns, Rebekah Fairey and Emily Ward.

The award for best Year 10 horror/thriller went to the scary “Lilith of the Night” by Kaitlyn Crafts and Emily Price.

The best Year 11 PSA was created by Taigen Gounden, Bailee Mackley, Rona Ngamoki and Freya-Patchett-Yorke. This beautifully filmed piece explored homelessness with control and integrity.

The Year 12 award was won by the dramatic and inspiring “Have you seen this Girl?” directed by Phoebe Driscole and Olivia Murray.

The Year 13 prize was awarded to the moving film “We were girls together” made by Holly Mason and Emma Slade.

Having seen all the films the audience was asked to vote on their favourite overall and “Rose”, a beautiful ghost story created by Year 12s E J Buckingham and Poppy Shoebridge took out this award by one vote over the super funny “Super Scary Golf Cart Movie” produced by Year 10s Ruvesha Eswaranathan, Aurora Goldsack, Niamh Hince, Millie Robertshaw and Isla Scofield McNeil.

The evening was a very enjoyable one and I want to acknowledge all the students who entered their films so they could be enjoyed by a wider audience. A special thank you to the Media Committee – it was a wonderful celebration of what has been achieved this year.
