Drama Performances in Term 3

Drama —

The year 11 Drama students recently shared their final performance evening for this year with our school community of staff, parents and friends of the cast. Everyone enthusiastically participated by booing the villains and cheering for the heroes and heroines in several Victorian Melodrama plays.

In their evening performance the Year 12 Drama students shared the harsh realities of social media in the play # Viral by Maria McConville as well displaying the strength of the women who meet at Truvy’s hair salon in America in the moving and entertaining “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling.

The Year 13 Drama class were thrilled at the chance to present their ensemble performance to a live audience recently, after two terms of character-building and sophisticated, yet somewhat lonely, solo performances. Presenting Mark Wheeller’s verbatim play I love You Mum; I Promise I Won’t Die, the Year 13s projected sincerity and mana in their portrayal of the friends and family of the late Dan Spargo-Mabbs, who died after overdosing on MDMA at an illegal rave in London in 2014. This play required dedication and teamwork, and came with the burden of responsibility to ‘do it right’; the performers stepped up to the challenge to showcase their skills in a dynamic and moving performance.
