Year 9 - 10 Assessment Information

PNGHS —

On the KAMAR portal you are able to view assessment data for your young person.

As we are coming to the end of the school year students will be sitting some final assessments in their subjects. For Mathematics and English you are likely to see e-AsTTle results as well as other assessments during the year. Students sit some assessment using the e-AsTTle tool ie. Year 8 Entrance Test, and during Year 9 and 10 in Mathematics, Reading and Writing. This data is used by teachers to help inform their teaching, identify next learning steps for students and to track students in their learning journey from Year 9 through to Year 11.

All assessments completed in 2022 can be viewed under ‘current years results’. All assessments in previous years can be viewed under the section ‘all results’

The e-AsTTle Assessments for Mathematics, Writing Reading allow the students to be assessed against the New Zealand curriculum. Each curriculum level has been split into three parts - Basic, Proficient and Advanced. (see example shown).

In Science students sit the Junior Science thinking with evidence at the start and end of Year 9 and in the end of Year 10.

Junior Science: Thinking with Evidence is a standardised science assessment explicitly linked to two aspects of The New Zealand Curriculum: the Nature of Science strand and one of the key competencies–thinking.

Students are asked to think critically about, and use evidence from, a range of interesting contexts of relevance to New Zealand students. Questions are multiple choice and scores are recorded as stanines. (See example included).

Other subjects may be using curriculum levels and also progress towards grades, which indicates the students progress over the topic. All subjects will have a learning comment for each term.
