Junior Speech Competition

PNGHS —

The recent finals of the Junior Speech Competition showcased a high quality of speakers who kept the audience absorbed with relevant topics and engaging, well-practised delivery.

The finalists addressed compelling issues and inspired self-reflection and action. Topics included ‘No Planet B’, ‘The Benefits of Being Dramatic’ and ‘Normalising Mental Illness’. Our judges, Mrs Joanne Wilson and Mrs Chris Ma’auga found it difficult to compare such topical and well-delivered orations, but eventually awarded third place to Zainaa Hilal (9ME) for her warning ‘Climate Change: the Real Killer’, and second place to Ruby Mainwaring (9SN) for helping peers and adults alike to reflect on ‘Vaping: Are Teens an Easy Target?’. The winner was Jiya Bothra (10MK) who captivated the audience with her moving and personal speech ‘Let’s Talk About Colourism’. Congratulations to all who entered the competition, and thank you for allowing us the privilege of hearing your voice and sharing your values.
