Keeping the Manu Alive

Mr James Allen - Kaiako / Teacher —

Our Tama Tū, Tama Ora, boys writing group, have been using their writer's voice to stand up for what they believe in.

After hearing that the Manu has been banned in various swimming pools around the country, the boys wrote some passionate persuasive writing to the Tauranga City Council to keep the Manu alive in the Bay.

Chief Executive Marty Grenfell was kind enough to meet us to receive our writing and also join in with some manus off the wharf. The response from the council was great (see below) and Mr Grenfell was adamant that the Manu is important and will have a place in the Bay for a long time to come, displaying the power of the written word.

Great work boys!
