Young Enterprise

Mrs Jaki Lee - Teacher —

Three 'Businesses' from our college are entered into this year’s Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) Awards.

The Businesses have already participated in several challenges. These involved “Pitching” to a group of local business owners at the Tauranga Basestation, and presenting their business to the public.

On Saturday 7 August they greeted attendees, at the entrance to the CANVA Careers Expo, with these great business ideas and products;

Stick & Ride, this business was formed by James Long Y12, Jaskaran Toor Y12, Aryan Saundh Y12, Rajvir Garcha Y12, Gaurav Buttar Y12, and Dilroop Singh Y12, to solve the problem of students who wish to show individuality but whose parents aren’t supportive of things like bold make-up and hair-colouring.

Stick & Ride Stickers custom design and print vinyl stickers to match their customer’s identities.

To see examples of their work or make an order, you can find them on Instagram @stickandride

Loggers is a business by Josh MacLeod Y12, Ryan McDonald Y11, and Matthew Lalitte Y12, who wanted to create a product that was a balm to the stressful environment of Senior School while using locally sourced and environmentally conscious materials.

The end result is a local beeswax candle inside a Cryptomeria holder.

The Cryptomeria is from local orchard shelter belt trimmings. To contact Loggers go to Instagram @loggers.official

Sweet is a business by Ben Parker-Fearnly Y12, Liam Thomas Y12, and JJ Wuttimarnop Y12. They were inspired by Nanna’s favorite recipe and a successful experience selling fudge at an Enterprise Market Day in Year 10. In addition to Nanna’s tried and tested recipe they have also developed their own rich salted caramel fudge recipe.

Their business idea involves providing sports events at Gordon Spratt with a delicious snack or a take-home bundle of their mouth-watering fudge. For more information, see their Instagram page @sweets.business.nz
