Wairākei heads for the hills

Ms Tanya Laybourn - Wairākei Teacher —

Wairākei Learning Community had a fun, but very cold trip to the mountains on Friday 24 July to learn about volcanoes and other land features at the Central Plateau.

We visited three different lakes - Taupo, Rotopounamu and Rotoaira. We walked over old avalanche mounds from many years ago and to Tawhai Falls to see an old lava flow and "Gollum's Pool". We learnt science, Maori history and enjoyed hanging out together for 12 hours!  Thank you so much to our amazing parents that came and helped on this adventure.
