SpeedMeet

Mrs Bronwin Severinsen - Careers Coordinator —

Five of our students spent the morning of Thursday 12 August at the 2021 MITO 'SpeedMeet' held at Mount Maunganui College.

MITO (Motor Industry Training Organisation) is the industry training organisation for the automotive, transport, logistics, extractive and textile fabrication sectors. Their annual 'SpeedMeet' events bring together students and employers from a variety of industries 'speed-dating style', via mini-interviews. If both employer and student note that they are interested, a match is made, and the student's contact details passed on the prospective employer.

This year students got to present themselves to 14 employers and to learn about their industries. After 6-minute chats, employers and students then responded to each other with a yes, no or maybe, via an app.

The event gave students the opportunity to have valuable discussions with prospective employers, learn more about a whole range of industries, and was a great way to practice interview skills.

Already some of our students have been contacted and visits to work sites arranged.

Follow the MITO Facebook page for some great training and apprentice opportunities.
