Good Neighbours

Mr Chris Taane - Specialist Teacher —

The Te Toka Ahuru Poutama team have been busy engaging their ‘green fingers’ over the last couple of weeks!

Our seniors have taken the opportunity to collaborate with the Good Neighbour group to propagate vegetables and house plants for community gardens throughout the Bay of Plenty. Our Poutama group travels to Puketiro Orchard every Wednesday.

Having the chance to get hands-on education in all things gardening has been a great experience, we are learning to appreciate just how much work is involved in creating and maintaining a garden!

Planting vegetables from seed using seed-raising trays and seed mix, maintaining greenhouses and garden equipment and grafting houseplants are just some of the skills we have gained. We look forward to seeing our vegetables grow.

We hope to help distribute our plants to community gardens when they are ready to transplant.
