Art Gallery Trip

Tania Lewis-Rickard - Visual Arts Teacher —

During Week 1 of this Term, forty Y10 - 13 students of the Visual Arts Learning Area visited Tauranga Art Gallery to absorb a range of exciting exhibits.

One of the highlights was the NZQA Top Art exhibition, which displayed portfolios that achieved Excellence nationwide in Level 3 last year. Our students were inspired by the five streams of Art that were on display: Design, Painting, Sculpture, Photography and Printmaking.

Students were also amazed by the expansive vibrant ‘Mega World’ murals painted by contemporary, pop style, comic illustrator ‘Ahsin Ahsin’. They were also captivated by technology and video works, illustrative drawings and design, toys, fashion and photography exhibits.

All exhibitions visited today provided students with the opportunity to view the visual arts in multiple ways and engage with the artworks interactively, experiencing them within the 'real world' context.
