Kia ora koutou, My name is Paula West and I am the Special Education Co-ordinator (SENCO) who has the privilege of leading the Te Toka Āhuru team.

We have a large diverse staff that includes a Learning Support Co-ordinator (LSC) Hosea Taani and 4 additional Specialist Teachers who provide support for students with the highest ongoing needs.

We currently have 23 Teacher aides to support and work with an array of students with different learning, social, physical, and behavioural needs.

Mine and Hosea's role - in consultation with teachers, whanau and outside agencies will be:

· to consider what are student's barriers to accessing the curriculum. This may require further investigation through assessments and observations.

·to refer and engage with outside agencies to ensure each student reaches their best self.

· to apply to NZQA for Special Assessment Conditions (SAC).

· to apply and provide additional in-class support (ICS) for students who have been identified with significant learning needs.

My team and I are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
