Kathryn Sharples - School Nurse

Mrs Kathryn Sharples - School Nurse —

Kia ora koutou, I am a registered nurse working alongside Woody Vahey.

We see students for a range of health concerns, including health education, mental and sexual health. Our aim is to enhance the wellbeing of students so they can focus on learning and living life safely, while feeling supported at school.

A main focus of our work is working alongside Year 9’s, where we are employed to complete a HEEADSSS assessment. This is a thorough youth focused assessment mostly comprised of questions to gain a sense of all areas of health and identify how we may be able to offer support and guidance through the adolescent years. Please let us know if you choose for your child to be opted out of this screening.

We also offer confidential appointments to students, whether it be for existing health conditions or to address new concerns/needs. We follow Best Practice guidelines from our Primary Health Organisation, with the aim being "to enhance all areas of well-being, to support students in making safe informed choices and be able to focus on their learning".

We also have a local GP that runs a free clinic each Monday for issues that may need a doctor input.

Students can make an appointment with Woody or myself via student services or email.
