Pāpāmoa College Board Parent Election Information 2025

Robyn Bradley —

Interested in joining our School Board? Nominations are now open.

We warmly invite all members of our school community to consider joining our School Board.

Parent Elections - An open letter from the Presiding member of the Pāpāmoa College Board:

Why do school’s matter?

It is often said that a school is a mirror on society.  It reflects the culture, standards, and aspirations of the community it serves.  But equally a community reflects its school.  Particularly its secondary school as each year a new cohort of young adults exit the school gates for the last time and progressively impact and shape the community.  The nature of this influence very much reflects their secondary school experience.

A healthy and thriving community

On top of this, a secondary school acts as an important community hub, bringing us together through shared experience of sports, arts, cultural and other activities.  Through all these experiences the school culture exerts an influence on the community.

If you are passionate about supporting the Pāpāmoa community to thrive there is no better place to focus your energy than Pāpāmoa College.

Personal and collective satisfaction

My time on the Pāpāmoa College Board has been incredibly rewarding.  We set a transformational challenge at the end of 2022, and it is so gratifying to see how the staff, students, and even the community, have responded. Greatly improving NCEA results, an excellent report from the Education Review Office, wonderful new facilities, and perhaps most importantly a noticeable sense of school pride developing amongst students and the community.

Strategy and partnerships

It is important to understand the role of a board is governance, not management.  The Board does not tell the school how to operate – that is for the Principal and leadership team to decide.  Rather the Board sets a strategic direction, defining aspirational outcomes and values, each reflecting the community we serve.  The Board works in partnership with the school leadership and staff to support the required work and hold them to account for achieving the desired outcomes.

Generosity – your time well invested

An effective board should have a diverse range of experience and expertise, again reflecting the community.  Some skills are especially valuable – financial management, performance management, strategic planning, and previous governance experience – and ideally members will bring at least one of these to the table.  However, in my view the most important attribute of a good board member is generosity – a willingness to give of your time, experience and passion in service to your community, and for the benefit of all of us who call this beautiful place home.

Key Information and dates

If any of this sounds like you, I strongly urge you to nominate and put yourself or someone else up for election.  We are holding a face to face information evening on Monday 21 July 2025 at 6.00 pm where you can meet myself and some other members of the board who will share their unique experiences with you.  We look forward to meeting you!

Dr Clarke Raymond
