Indoor Bowls Success!

Roma Janke Y8 —

On Friday 17 August a group of students from Papamoa College represented our school at the Indoor Bowls Pre Aims Tournament which was held at the Mount Sports Centre.

After arriving at school at 8:00am, Miss Donaldson drove us to our Pre-Aims Game Tournament in the school’s van, to the Mount Sports Centre. We raced upstairs, placed our bags in a Papamoa College pile and headed downstairs for our host Alison to read out the rules. Schools that attending the Pre-aims games were teams from: Te Puke, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, and us!

We played in our pairs throughout the day. Mia and I played on Mats, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and we versed all teams. Each game was 40-50 minutes long. After playing 4 games, we  had won 3 of our games and only lost 1 one.

We went through to the semi-finals where we won 3 out of 3 games! The judges commented on how good they thought my bowling technique was.

It was now down to the finals … we versed Te Puke for placings 1st & 2nd and the Mount versed another Mount team for 3rd place.

It was complete silence! Mia and I won the first set and lost the 2nd set .... The winners are… drum roll please! Te Puke!

Mia and I came in 2nd place, but we were very happy with ourselves.  We received a silver medal as well as a certificate!

It wasn’t just us that went to the semi finals, Lukah and Maddie were paired together and they won 3 of their games and lost one, they carried on and went to the semi finals too, and won 1 out of 3, so they also did very well! Our lovely coach Miss Donaldson was very proud of all of us because every member of our Indoor Bowling Group played amazingly!

On behalf of the Papamoa College Indoor Bowling Group we would like to thank Miss Donaldson very much for all her time and effort that was gone into supporting us and helping us improve our skills at this very cool sport and we also look forward to doing it all over again in week 8, for the up coming AIMS Games at the ASB arena.
