Message from Pere Durie - Acting Principal

Mr Pere Durie | Acting Principal —

Kia ora koutou,

The Winter season has meant that there have been a few opportunities to stay inside and watch a good movie. The Superhero craze is continuing with Doctor Strange, Ms Marvel and Batman all doing the rounds recently.

While we do not see too many super powers in real life, sometimes it may seem that other people are naturally gifted or have some type of advantage. The reality is that most of the time this is not the case. We all have access to two elements that require no special gifts or advantage. By showing up and working hard, we can ensure we put ourselves in a position to excel. These are two things that success is built on.

I mention this because this past week has seen our senior students complete their first semester for their NCEA courses. A number of them have shown up, have worked hard and are now in a really strong position at the mid point of the year. They have enjoyed their courses, have learnt a lot of new things, have enjoyed success and are now able to make informed decisions about navigating the next semester.

In the coming weeks Matariki will be visible and will signal a time to reflect on where we have been and prepare for where we are going. However this looks for us individually, by showing up and working hard, the future will be bright. In this edition of the Connect you will see a number of our students who have shown up, worked hard and enjoyed success and incredible experiences as a result.

Ngā mihi

Pere Durie
