On the 17 October 11 UMS students went to Rotorua for the day, to learn about Earth Science and Chemistry.
First we visited Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Area . We went on a hike with Michelle, our tour guide from Learning Journey’s who told us all about the area. It was really fascinating to look at the pools and and hear the history behind them.
Next we went to the erupting Lady Knox Geyser. They put soap in the geyser, to reduce the water's surface tension to start the process.
We went to Kuirau Park, to do some pH water testing on the geothermal pools. We tested the pH and temperature of the pools. After we then we to Skyline Luge. We had a great view over the area from the top of the cable-car and learnt how the Rotorua caldera formed. We learnt more about forces and motion as we rode down the Luge.
The whole day was really fun and interesting, as we experienced lots of new things and learnt more about science. We are looking forward to more being able to go on more trips like this again in the future.
