Hands-on Chemistry
This term, our Year 9 and 10 students dove into the fascinating world of chemistry, focusing on the changing states of substances. Our budding scientists had the chance to explore the intriguing process of sublimation through hands-on experiments with dry ice. This was an engaging and enlightening experience for everyone involved!
During the experiments, students participated in a variety of practical activities using dry ice. These experiments were designed not only to demonstrate the sublimation process but also to engage students' curiosity and enhance their observational skills.
In the laboratory, students observed the mesmerising transformation of dry ice as it sublimated, creating clouds of fog and bubbling in water. They noted the rapid change from solid to gas and the cooling effects it had on its surroundings. The excitement was palpable as students used dry ice to inflate balloons, make metal scream, and create spooky fog effects.
These activities allowed students to make real-time observations and record their findings, fostering a hands-on understanding of chemical processes. They learned to predict outcomes, measure changes, and discuss their observations with peers, enhancing their scientific inquiry skills.
