Bring your own device - Now is a good time.
Now that students have become quite proficient with using a digital device for their learning, we are finding that the demand for school owned computers, laptops and chromebooks is high. We don't want students to miss out on good learning opportunities, and while the school has invested significantly in computers, unfortunately we are not in a position to provide a computer for every student at once.
We would like to encourage students to bring their own device to school if they can so that they are not having to wait for a school device. Now could be a good time to consider purchasing a device for your child if possible. The school has arranged with certain businesses that sell computers/laptops/chromebooks special discounts and deals. Check out our website for more information.
PB Tech have a great range of devices, and for members of the school community they have additional discounts on some items - simply use the code 'BYOD2020'
Guidelines to help you when choosing a device
- Wireless networking capability (WIFI)
- At least 5 hours of use from one battery charge
- Large screen (10" minimum)
- Has a keyboard (can be detachable)
- The ability to run a web browser (eg Chrome) that will allow access Google Classroom and other online learning resources
- Is lightweight, but robust enough to handle daily use
- Is in a protective carrying case
Other considerations which we strongly recommend
- Warranty - students using the device regularly will want faults fixed quickly and the school can not provide technical support or repair services.
- Insurance - make sure you are covered for replacement if the device is lost, stolen or if insurance does not cover personal property.
