Artistic Swimming World Champions

PC Sport —

Huge congratulations to Year 11 student Emily Carter, who competed as a member of the New Zealand Artistic Swimming Team in the FINA International Open. The team placed third with both of their outstanding entries!

The FINA 2021 Junior and Youth International Open was held in Florida on 16-23 August. The NZ Junior Team, along with half of the 19 countries entered this year, competed virtually. They got together for their final practice and uploaded their online entry in Dunedin in early August.

The talented team came third behind the USA and Mexico in the 'Combination Team' event with this Alien-Themed routine, and also achieved third place in the 'Free Team' event behind Mexico and Chile with this Gaming-inspired routine

The team was coached by Kirstin Anderson and Tori Hohaia, both themselves former New Zealand representatives, and was made up of athletes from all over the country:

Auckland - Vanessa Burmeister, Yingqi (Ariel) Chen
Tauranga - Sophie Black, Chloe Boyt, Emily Carter
Christchurch - Daisy Sellier, Hannah Shatford, Alessandra Ward (Captain)
Invercargill - Abby Flutey, Xiara Patino, Onevai Pita
