Thank you for your support!

Mrs Bronwin Severinsen -Careers Coordinator —

We would like to say a big thanks to all the local businesses that supported our Gateway Program in the first half of this year.

Gateway is designed to strengthen student pathways from school to the workplace. Through this Programme, students are offered training opportunities outside the classroom.

At Papamoa College, we work hard to establish a ‘right fit’ for participating students and employers. The support of local businesses is critical to the success of this program.

Here are some examples of some recent student placements;

Pacifica Cafe - Kayla Smith Y13 has been exploring cheffing, working hands-on in the Pacifica kitchen with their chefs, and loving baking. Pacifica Café has previously offered table service experience to students, Kayla is the first student to try cooking in their kitchen.

Tauranga Motor Company - Flynn Parriss Y13 worked alongside qualified mechanics for 20 weeks. Flynn left school in July to start a New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3). Time on his placement with Tauranga Motor Company confirmed his desire to carry on in this field.

Millright Construction has expertise in sawmill construction, system refinement and machinery upgrades. They also work with mining operations, pulp and paper. Adam Horsburgh Y13 is the first Gateway student to work at Millright. They were so pleased with Adam, they asked us if he could stay longer than the initial 10 weeks. Adam has been measuring, cutting steel, welding, using hoists and working with the team. Adam is now weighing up if he should pursue an engineering apprenticeship or go to university.

Papamoa Primary School - Chloe Y13 has been helping in a year 5/6 classroom and learning from an enthusiastic and capable teacher, Jordana Andrews. Chloe wanted to confirm to herself that Primary Teaching is the career choice for her.
