Ex Olympian Nicola Coles Visits LMS

Mr Jeroen Jens - LMS Teacher —

On Wednesday 23 June, the LMS students (Years 7/8) had a special visit from Nicola Coles, an ex-Olympian rower. She is a New Zealand Olympic Ambassador and visits schools to talk about her experience as a rower.

Nicola rowed internationally for New Zealand between 2001 and 2008. Her specialist event was the coxless pair, her rowing partner was Juliette Haigh.

Her talk was based around the Olympic values, her experiences as an athlete, competing on the world stage, the setbacks she endured during some of the important qualifying races, and the highs and lows of her rowing career.

She spoke of the mindset you need as an athlete to stay at the top. Her passion for the sport, and her hope that maybe one of the LMS students who were present, could represent NZ on the world stage in years to come.

What an inspiring person for our students to hear from!
