Work Experience

Mrs Kelly Paton - Specialist Teacher —

Every year the students in Te Toka Ahuru (formerly Learning Support) have the opportunity to choose to do work experience in the community.

This year three students have headed into the big wide world of Papamoa, they have faced challenges, had fun and learnt loads within their workplace.

Mathew Weatherly has been working every Tuesday morning at Hell's Pizza. He has learnt to make up sauce containers, cut his own pizza and do dishes. Each week the manager has kindly made him a pizza for his lunch. Thank you so much to the Hell's pizza team for their teaching, support and kindness!

Paper Plus has had the pleasure of working with Levi Robb. Each Thursday morning Levi will catch the bus to work with his teacher. At work he goes through each and every magazine to find any that are out of date, he has a sharp eye for this job! For the rest of his morning, Levi tidies the shelves and organises the plastic animal display (this is his favourite job by far). Thank you to Paper Plus for their care and support and of course saying yes to taking on another Papamoa College student.

Evo Cycles have just taken on their first Te Toka student, Liam Stanshall. Liam has a huge love of mountain biking and aims to train hard enough in the Downhill event to gain sponsorship with either Fox or Redbull. Liam had his first day at Evo recently and has already shown natural flare as a salesman. In this placement, Liam will learn more about the different types of bikes as well as how to fix them. Thank you to Jade and the team for giving Liam the opportunity to further his knowledge.
