Mr Steve Lindsey - Principal —

Hello everyone

Looking back over the last three weeks at school, it is encouraging to see that most people are back into the routine of learning on campus. It is also pleasing to see that many sports codes have started up with trials and practices in anticipation of upcoming competitions etc.

A major focus for teachers has been to spend time with students to evaluate where they are at with their learning and what needs to occur to ensure academic success by the end of the school year.

Early Student Report and Parent Student Conferences
In response to the disruption we have all had to the learning year, we have brought forward the normal end of term two report, to provide Parents/Caregivers with current information on student learning progress. The Student Report will be available for Parents/Caregivers on Monday 15 June and has been designed to provide you with your child's student learning progress and should form the basis for a good conversation with teachers about the next steps.

The Parent Student Conferences will be held throughout the whole day on Wednesday 24 June. Please note that this is different to how we have conducted these in the past and it means that normal student learning programmes will not occur on this date as teachers will be busy meeting Parents/Caregivers.

We are also wanting to trial not only providing face to face meetings, but also an online/digital option, this will give Parents/Caregivers with another way to gain access to teachers. Details regarding how to book face to face meetings and digital meetings will be provided closer to the time.

Senior Students and NCEA
There have been a number of modifications made to NCEA that will support senior students to gain their L1, L2 & L3 qualifications. In short, there are changes to submission dates for some standards that have portfolio work, reduced entry requirements to tertiary courses, and a process of learning recognition credits, which means that when a student earns 5 credits they are awarded an additional 1 credit (up to a maximum of 10 L1, 8 L2, 8 L3 credits). While these measures should not be relied on for success, they will certainly help those students that have been unduly affected by the covid19 situation. Here is an article that outlines the changes to NCEA for 2020.

We will continue to keep you updated with any changes to how school is operating and also with any public health requirements for the campus.

Nga mihi
