Head Student - Ariana Taute

Ariana Taute - Head Student —

I started my journey at Pāpāmoa College in 2017, prior to that, I went to Golden Sands Primary School. Through my years at Pāpāmoa College, I have been involved in many sports and leadership roles such as being part of our school's Junior A Netball team from 2019 to 2020, and then going into the Prerm A Netball team in my senior years. In addition to that, I also coached a year 7 Netball team in 2022. I have also been part of our girl's Rugby sevens team and played mixed touch for our kura in 2020.

Some leadership roles I had throughout my time at Pāpāmoa college included being a Cultural and Arts Ambassador and Senior Leader before stepping into my new role as a Head Student for 2023. All these achievements and experiences were an integral part of being able to grow confidence and have self-discipline and represent our kura through kapa haka 2017 - 2021, which was an incredible experience for me because I was able to meet some awesome people and I was able to feel more connected to my culture here at Pāpāmoa College.

Being selected for this role as a Head Student has been both a joy and nerve-racking experience, to say the least. Although I am so excited to step into this role and work with my new teammates (Cameron, Riko, and Olivia), I am also a bit nervous about how this new year will play out, but I am up for the challenge and am ready to face it head-on.

Some goals that I have for the year ahead is to be able to not only make this year enjoyable for not only myself but for everyone else as well. I want to be able to help students find enjoyment in showing up to school and also find ways to connect and celebrate them. My main goal for this coming year is to be able to help students through their journeys at Pāpāmoa College and also become a tuakana figure for them.

My plan for the future after I leave our kura is to go and study nursing at hopefully (AUT) Auckland University of Technology, or at Toi Ohomai here in Tauranga. I would also like to travel once I finish studying because that has always been a lifelong dream of mine. I am so thrilled and excited to be stepping into this new role and to also see what 2023 has to offer.
