Visual Arts on Instagram

Mrs Helen MacDuff - Curriculum Leader Visual Arts —

Our time in Lockdown, although challenging for many, has also brought out some amazing creations from our students. Many unexpected, insightful and humbling work has been posted on the Papamoa College Visual Arts Instagram page as a result.

We love the featured image by Klaudia Richards Y8, which has such a great message:

"This art was something I've worked very hard on. The meaning of it all is that, the guy can easily open the doors and take different pathways in life. He could buy the biggest house, he could find more hobbies, he could travel the world, he could get good grades, he could make friends but he chooses to stay in his depressed little box because he doesn't want to step out of his comfort zone. I feel like this is a necessary message to a lot of teenagers these days, to go for what you really want."

Sharing and celebrating our students awesome creativity, has been so especially important in lockdown. Many of these students, when offered the opportunity to exhibit their work with the community, were enthusiastic and excited by the prospect. This platform is encouraging students to continue expressing themselves artistically, through photography, design, painting and mixed-media. It is a wonderful format for celebrating their efforts and works to foster students self-confidence and wellbeing.

Our Instagram Visual Arts account is a really positive example of social media use and gives students a chance to exhibit to their community and beyond. With a larger following and some groundswell encouragement, we can support our students and show them how clever, unique and valued they are!

Follow @papamoacollegevisualarts on Instagram and share the likes if you are happy to do so, we would really appreciate it.
