Girls Learn to Surf

Ms Tanya Laybourn - Wairākei Learning Community —

On Tuesday 23 March, 46 lucky Upper Middle School (Year 9 &10) girls received free surfing lessons with some of New Zealands' top women surfers.

It was a beautiful day at Papamoa Beach, with perfect learner waves. Within minutes of being in the ocean, most of the girls were catching waves and standing up with smiles miles wide.

Maddy Brunton and Tanya Laybourn agreed with the many girls who commented it was "one of the best days they have had at school for ages!"

Papamoa College is super grateful to Surfing NZ for an extremely well run day. A special thanks to Lee Ryan, the Surfing NZ Development Manager who organised the day.
