Regional Dance Champions!

Mrs Gayle Spence - Curriculum Leader of Performing Arts —

Congratulations to our Year 11-13 Dance Students who won the Dance NZ Made Regional Interschool Championships!

This year Papamoa College entered three performances into the Dance NZ Made Interschool Competition held in Tauranga on Monday 9 August.

We are very excited that one of the pieces, entitled 'Emptiness Weighs the Most', choreographed by Ms Janelle Reid, won the 2021 Year 11-13 Regional Team Champions! Not only did this piece place first, but it also received an 'Excellence in Choreography' award.

Janelle and her team of talented dancers worked hard in and out of class to prepare for this major dance competition, with only two of our dancers regularly attending dance classes outside of school.

The winning team members (pictured above) were Gemma Van Huenen Y13, Madeleine Holmes Y12, Emilie Rillstone Y12, Alize Reis Y12, Dani Nel Y12, Lané Alberts Y12, Dakota Collins Y11, Niamh Pierce Y11, Abbie Jacob Y11, Kaitlin Dunn Y11, Irza Smeenk Y13 and Jemima Pol Y13.

We are very proud of their efforts and are excited for them to compete at the Nationals in Palmerston North, at the end of October!
