Associate Dean Senior School - Mr Colin Byrne
As the Associate Dean for the senior school my focus is on maintaining a positive school culture.
The Senior Dean's team are your go to for anything related to student behavior, academic progress, and overall well-being. We work closely with our senior school students and their Whānau teachers. We handle issues like attendance, behavior, or conflicts among students, working with whānau and staff to address problems early.

Associate Dean Junior School - Ms Jenna Mackay
Hey team, I'm a foundation staff member who has been at Pāpāmoa College since 2010.
I can be found in Koekoeā where I lead the Learning Through Sport programme. I am also the Associate Dean of our Junior School, Years 7-10.

Year 13 Dean - Mrs Ingrid Willett
Kia ora, my name is Ingrid Willett and I am the Year 13 Dean for 2026.
I have been teaching at Pāpāmoa College for the past nine years as an English teacher, and have held a range of leadership roles including Leader of Learning Commons (UMS), Literacy Coordinator, and Senior Dean.
I am pleased to be working with the Year 13 cohort this year and to see their excitement and enthusiasm as they move closer to their future pathways. In my role, I work in partnership with students, their whānau, and subject teachers to support the best possible learning and achievement outcomes. This includes guidance around attendance, uniform, pastoral care, subject selection, academic progress, leadership opportunities, and credit accumulation. I am always happy to provide support and guidance to help students achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.

Year 12 Dean - Mrs Krystal O'Carroll
Kia ora Pāpāmoa College whānau!
I am honoured to be the Year 12 Dean this year. Year 12 is such an important stage of schooling, a year where students begin shaping their futures with greater clarity, confidence, and independence. I feel privileged to walk alongside our ākonga during this pivotal time.
I am going into my tenth year at Pāpāmoa College, and alongside teaching Mathematics, my passion lies in understanding how young people learn and thrive. I have a strong interest in trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity, and the science of how the brain is wired. This ongoing research and learning deeply influences how I support students.
I believe that when we understand behaviour through a lens of curiosity rather than judgement, we create pathways that truly work for our young people. Success looks different for everyone. Whether that pathway is academic, vocational, creative, or community-based, my role is to help each student find the direction that fits them best, and to ensure they feel supported, capable, and understood along the way.
Year 12 is a year of growth, challenge, and opportunity. I look forward to working in partnership with whānau to ensure our ākonga feel empowered to take the next steps toward meaningful futures.

Year 11 Dean - Miss Liselle van Maanen
Kia ora whānau! My name is Liselle van Maanen, and I am a Year 11 Dean here at Pāpāmoa College.
Alongside my role as a Visual Arts teacher specializing in photography, I am passionate about supporting our ākonga both academically and pastorally. My goal is to create a positive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. I look forward to working with whānau and the wider community to help our students grow into well-rounded young adults.

Year 11 Dean - Mr Andrew Hay
Kia ora, I am the Year 11 Dean for 2026 alongside Liselle van Maanen. I also help coordinate the Senior Outdoor Education programme here at Papamoa College.
With over 25 years teaching experience across several schools and countries, facilitating young people to challenge themselves in any sport or outdoor pursuit environment still gets me up in the morning.
When not at school, you will find me with a whistle or on the sidelines supporting my own kids playing sports or enjoying the challenge of hunting and collecting the bounty that our moana provides.

Y10 Dean - Mr Jeroen van Wijk
Kia Ora team. My name is Mr van Wijk and I am the Year 10 Dean. I am also a Physical Education and Health teacher.

Year 10 Dean - Miss Megan Perry
Kia ora koutou, I'm Megan Perry and I’ve been teaching for 10 years in Food Technology, Health and Physical Education. I’m passionate about the outdoors, especially the beach, and have a background in Water Polo. At home, I’m kept busy with my three daughters, staying active and enjoying time as a family.
As the Year 10 Dean, alongside Jereon van Wijk, I work closely with individual students to support their well-being, attendance, and positive behaviour. I’m dedicated to helping each student thrive, both academically and personally. I also collaborate with whanau to ensure students feel supported and empowered in their Pāpāmoa College journey. I’m excited to be part of the pastrol team for 2025.

Year 9 Dean - Mr Hosea Taani
Mālō e lelei, kia ora koutou! My name is Hosea Taani, and I am the Year 9 Dean.
My father is of Tongan descent (Uiha, Haʻapai, Tonga), and my mother is of Māori descent (Ngāti Awa, Tuwharetoa ki Kawerau). Before returning to the Bay I lived and taught in Auckland, England, and South Korea.
I have previously worked for 10 years in the learning support sector in Auckland, collaborating with various learning and behaviour support agencies. My passion for inclusive education and boys' learning has led me to work closely with Māori and Pacific communities, Massey University Albany, and local sports clubs.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children, exploring the Bay, and training for New Zealand Powerlifting competitions.

Year 9 Dean - Tāne Taitoko
As a Year 9 dean I will be working alongside Hosea Taani in supporting students through a significant stage of their secondary school journey, providing both academic guidance and pastoral care.
I will oversee the wellbeing, engagement, and progress of all Year 9 students, acting as the first point of contact for students, parents, and teachers regarding year-level matters.
When I'm not in the deaning space I am teaching in the Te Pākura department or working with our international students.

Year 7/8 Dean - Mrs Kim Remus
Kia ora koutou! I am one of the Junior School Deans.
As a Junior School Dean I work closely with teachers, other staff and Y7/8 students to ensure that our students are safe, happy and enjoying school. Shaun Cave and I work as a team to support all of our Year 7/8 students' well-being and pastoral needs.
We aim to set expectations for positive behaviour, regular attendance, and to support students through both the great and also difficult parts of life. Together we are advocates for our students supporting them with social issues, leading restorative chats and organising Junior School activities such as social events, assemblies and bi-annual camps.

Year 7/8 Dean - Mr Shaun Cave
Kia ora koutou! I teach in Rangataua Learning Commons and am one of the Junior School Deans.
As a Junior School Dean, my role is to set our Year 7/8 students up for success as they begin their journey here at Pāpāmoa College. I endeavour to do my best to ensure our Year 7/8 students feel safe, happy and thrive while here at kura. To do this I work alongside our school values, support students with attendance and uniform, and celebrate the successes and achievements our students reach throughout the year.
A real positive with the role is working alongside a range and large number of students and staff. With these people on board, I believe 2025 is going to be a great year here at Pāpāmoa College! I am looking forward to working with a new group of students as I look to play my part in contributing and making a difference in their lives.
