Tangaroa's Treasures

Mrs Karla Spicer Tumuaki Tuarua / Acting Deputy Principal —

In Term 2 our Lower Middle School students have been focussing on Tangaroa's Treasures. They are learning about what precious resources our Oceans and Waterways are, and ways to care for and protect them.

In May our LMS classes began field trips to the Mount Maunganui beaches. 'Coastal Discovery Days' is a module in the Learning Through Discovery program run by Van Taylor and the Tauranga City Council. All of our year 7 and 8 students will take part in this over the weeks ahead.

The Learning through Discovery programmes have been developed to raise the awareness of our wonderful Tauranga parks and to encourage long-term involvement in caring for our local ecosystems. The ultimate aim is to promote positive environmental behaviour change amongst students and school communities who undertake the programmes.

We also have some amazing learning experiences planned for June when we are looking forward to welcoming Young Ocean Explorers in to speak to the students.

Thanks to students for your hard mahi and for giving back to the community. We also deeply appreciate the whānau, teachers, and senior student leaders who are supporting these trips.
