Mathematics Probability Carnival: A Day of Fun and Learning!

Mrs Krystal OCarroll - Teacher —

Our Mathematics Probability Carnival on Thursday 21 November was a vibrant showcase of creativity, strategy, and mathematical thinking!

Year 9 students worked tirelessly to design and build exciting carnival games, with the ultimate goal of maximizing their profits. Meanwhile, our Year 7 & 8 students were busy in their classes earning tokens to spend on the big day, eagerly anticipating the fun ahead.

The preparation involved careful calculations, as the Year 9 students delved into the probability of winning and losing in their games. They had to consider not only how much their prizes would cost but also how to balance those costs with ticket prices to ensure a profitable outcome. This hands-on application of probability and financial planning brought mathematics to life in a way that was both engaging and practical.

On the day, during blocks one and two, the Year 9 students proudly showcased their games, welcoming excited Year 7 and 8 students eager to try their luck. The gym was filled with energy as students tested their strategies, spent their hard-earned tokens, and celebrated the thrill of victory (and the occasional loss).

The carnival was a fantastic way to blend learning with fun, reinforcing key mathematical concepts while fostering creativity and teamwork. A big congratulations to all our students for their enthusiasm, dedication, and innovative game designs!
