Kimi Ora Camp

Julia Walmsley —

The Kimi Ora Department attends an annual three day camp to extend skills and achieve goals, this year we went to Living Springs.

During Term 3 the students form a relationship with a Year 12 student through a number of PE periods, and they become a buddy for the duration of camp. This year the camp included a vigorous tramp up from Governors Bay through the farm into Living Springs Camp. The students were set up in groups with their Year 12 buddies and spent three days participating in physical activities including a set of initiatives involving challenges such as climbing high walls, balancing on a table with a group of peers, climbing through a rope spider web. Other activities included swimming, mini golf, riding the monorail, gaga ball and the much anticipated archery tag which was loads of fun.

Extra activities included a campfire with marshmallows on the first evening, a fast and furious water slide, and a dress up as your favourite book character disco event.

The Kimi Ora students extended their skills by trying new activities and staying away from home for two nights. They also made some lovely connections with their Year 12 buddies and returned to school having achieved new life experiences. Students will now be able to add this experience into their Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey and apply it to the medal they are working towards.
