Upcoming events from the Careers Department 

In school events: 

Senior Course Selection Evening: will be held on Wednesday 30 July. This will be an opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students to meet teachers to discuss subject choices and also connect with a variety of tertiary providers about study options beyond school. Further details will follow next term. 


SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:  We are at the time of the year when Year 13 students are thinking about their next steps. If you are considering going to university you need to be exploring scholarships. Mr Stewart will be running sessions explaining how to apply for scholarships.

Milford Foundation Scholarship is now open: (from Monday 9 June through to Thursday 31 July).

The Milford Foundation Scholarship’s purpose is to reduce inequality in access to tertiary education, by providing financial support to school leavers for whom cost is a barrier.This is a significant financial and mentoring support scholarship and has strict criteria to support students that may struggle to access Tertiary education. Make sure you read the criteria on the link.

Riccarton Rotary Youth Trust Scholarship: Each year the Riccarton Rotary Youth Trust offers a scholarship to enable a student to attend either the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University or Ara Institute of Canterbury. The objective of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student who is experiencing severe financial pressure or has personal circumstances which might otherwise prevent tertiary study. The award recognises that some young people of enormous potential are prevented from obtaining higher qualifications.

Students out and about:  A group of students participated in Girls in Hi Vis recently. They learnt about careers and pathways in a wide range of construction and infrastructure industries and had hands-on experiences. Thanks to Bev Gordon for organising and Reece Sparkes for taking the students to the event. 

Ongoing Careers Support:

Support with CVs: Are you lacking a CV or need advice on your current one? Come to the Careers area on Fridays and fill in the sign up sheet. Mari, our office administrator will then get in touch with you and provide support.

Drivers Licence credits: If you have a Learners, Restricted or Full licence you can receive NCEA credits to recognise this. Come into the GATEWAY office on Fridays with your licence.
