Upcoming events from the Careers Department

In school events: 

Year 13 Careers Conference: On Tuesday 18th March the school day for ALL Year 13's will start at 8:30am at the Papanui Club, 302 Sawyers Arms Road.

Students will need to get their own transport to the event (as a normal day of school). The event finishes at 12:15, students are then required to transport themselves back to school for Periods 5 and 6. Students can choose to walk, bus, ride, or drive to and from the venue. Should they wish to drive please make sure they do not take passengers in accordance with NZ driving law . They need to obey all road rules and comply with the regulations for their particular licence. Students requiring transport assistance should contact careers staff in advance.


Victoria University visit: Staff from Victoria University will be in school on Tuesday 11th March in A12 Period 4. All Year 12 and 13 students who are considering study at Victoria University should attend. 


Learners Driver Tests: Having a driver's licence is one of the most important steps you can take for your future. Look at these opportunities below and get started now.

For the first time we are offering you the opportunity to sit your driving theory test (learners) here at school.  

Term 1: March 26

Term 2: May 13, 14

Term 3: August 4, 5

Support with CVs Are you lacking a CV or need advice on your current one?Come to the Careers area on Fridays and fill in the sign up sheet. Mari, our office administrator will then get in touch with you and provide support.

NZDF Information Evening: 13th May 6.30pm, Wigram Museum


Canterbury University Information Evenings: Our Hui Tairanga | Information Evening series provides students and whānau with the opportunity to learn about future educational pathways from world class professors, access various resources, and gauge a real sense of community that is on offer at UC.

These evenings span from 14 May to 17 July throughout various regions across New Zealand. For those regions where an evening is not held, we’ll be in touch with options for them to explore.

Otago University: The On-Campus Experience ( OCE ) scholarship provides an opportunity for Year 13 students of Māori descent to experience learning at the University of Otago.

The scholarship covers flight costs, accommodation at a residential college, food and all programme activities. Students will explore the campus and have the opportunity to attend lectures in their areas of interest. Who can apply?

You should consider applying for the On-Campus Experience if you: Are a Year 13 student of Māori descent, have NCEA Level 2 with Merit, and are considering studying at Otago in 2026.

Otago University Pacific On-Campus Experience Scholarship. Discover what student life is really like at the University of Otago with the Pacific On-Campus Experience Sunday, 4th May to Monday, 5th May 2025

Attend Otago Open Days, visit academic departments and meet our amazing academic support staff who'll be there to support you if you come to Otago. Meet current students. The scholarship covers all expenses (travel, accommodation, programme activities, and meals). For Year 13 students of Pacific heritage.

Applications open Monday, 10th February 2025 and close 5:00pm Friday, 7th March 2025. If you are interested come and see a member of the Careers team for more information

University Open Days: University Open Day Dates - it's always best to organise your flights as early as you can if needed. We run a 2 night trip for students wishing to attend the Otago open day and all Year 13's have the option of attending the UC open day instead of school that day.
